Claudia Cassara (Melissa Gilbert) is a dreamy romantic on the inside , but she puts forth a reserved, withdrawn facade for the outside world. Lonely and terribly shy, she finds it difficult to meet men, so she is surprised and thrilled when Tom Chapman (Tim Matheson), a handsome, divorced architect enters her life. SHe thinks it's love, and it is, but not in the way she expected. Her true friend and confidant is not Tom, but his ten-year-old son Joshua (Matthew Lawrence), who is as lonely and longing for love as Claudia.
